GCOE Jammu observes World No Tobacco Day amid awareness activities

JAMMU: The Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu observed ‘World No Tobacco Day’ with a series of impactful awareness activities aimed at educating students, faculty and the community about the dangers of tobacco use.

The event was held under the guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Parihar and coordinated by the convener of the NCORD Committee, Prof. Sunanda Rani.

Centered on this year’s theme, “Bright Products, Dark Intentions – Unmasking the Appeal,” the program commenced with an Anti-Tobacco Rally involving 50 students and faculty members, including Prof. Satish Sharma, Dr. Rajinder Kour, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Prof. Roopa Kumari, Dr. Ambika Sharma, among others. The rally aimed to spread awareness in the surrounding areas and encourage a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Later, an essay writing competition was held, where 10 students showcased their perspectives on the harmful effects of tobacco and the importance of prevention among youth.

Prof. Sunanda Rani, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasised the critical role of education in combating tobacco addiction, especially among young people. Her efforts, combined with the active participation of students and faculty, made the event a resounding success.

The observance of World No Tobacco Day at GCOE Jammu served as a powerful reminder of the need for collective action and continued efforts toward a healthier and tobacco-free future.
