Baramulla: An extensive IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) programme under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan was organized Thursday across various educational institutions of Anantnag to realize the vision of a drug-free society.
The initiative is part of a concerted and sustained campaign to tackle the growing menace of substance abuse, particularly among youth. It aims to educate students, teachers and the broader community about the dangers of drug addiction while promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle through awareness, active participation and multi-departmental collaboration.
As part of the campaign, a series of events including interactive sessions, awareness rallies, essay competitions, debates and pledge-taking ceremonies were conducted Thursday in various educational institutions across the district including at HS Levdoora, HS Shangus, Eternal Public School, Public school Urnhall, ST Peters International School and HS Dadoo.
These activities are designed to inform students about the harmful effects of drugs besides to empower them as change agents within their families and communities.
Special sessions were held during which experts from the Health Department, Social Welfare Department and District Police shared insights into the psychological, physical and social impacts of drug addiction. Real-life testimonials and case studies were also presented to emphasize the reality and severity of substance abuse.
District Administration underscored the importance of community involvement in the campaign. Furthermore the school managements and college authorities were encouraged to establish Anti-Drug Committees and Peer Support Groups to ensure continuous engagement on the issue and to identify early signs of distress among students.
Under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan more activities are scheduled in the coming weeks in the district, with special focus days planned.
