New Delhi: In a major global diplomatic outreach, the Modi government is to send a delegation of over 40 parliamentarians, cutting across party lines, to key world capitals including Washington, London, Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, to expose Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam terror attack and Islamabad’s continued support to cross-border terrorism.

The delegation is to comprise senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who has been vocal in backing the Modi government over Operation Sindoor, and other diplomatic initiatives.

The other members are reported to be AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who also has been equally vocal in backing the Indian Army and attacking Pakistan over its support to terrorism. Congress leader Manish Tewari and Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi are also to be in the delegation,

The delegation would be divided into different groups, with Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju to coordinate among them.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, while confirming that the party would participate in the all-party delegation, was critical of PM Modi in calling a meeting of only NDA Chief Ministers on May 25 over Operation Sindoor.

He posted on X: “The Prime Minister has refused to chair two all-party meetings on the Pahalgam terror attacks and Operation Sindoor….”

“Now suddenly the PM has decided to send multi-party delegations abroad to explain India’s stand on terrorism from Pakistan. The Indian National Congress always takes a position in the supreme national interest and never politicises national security issues like the BJP does. Hence, the INC will definitely be a part of these delegations,” he said.
