After more than three decades of distinguished service in the field of education, Professor Raveena Hassan esteemed Principal of Model Government Degree College, Charari Sharief has officially retired, marking the close of a glorious era. Admired for her integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment, she leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to illuminate the institution’s path for generations to come.
Professor Hassan’s journey in academia began as a young lecturer in the Department of Physics. Her intellectual brilliance, combined with a compassionate spirit, quickly set her apart. With her natural aptitude for leadership, she rose steadily through the ranks and was appointed Principal in 2020. For over half a decade, she led the college with distinction and vision.

Under her transformative leadership, the college witnessed a renaissance. She was instrumental in numerous developmental initiatives, including the construction of a new Science block, an indoor stadium, a well-equipped girls’ common room, a flourishing library, a gymnasium, spacious parking facilities, and a fully digitalised library. Her efforts culminated in a successful NAAC re-accreditation, earning the institution an impressive ranking.
Her progressive outlook extended beyond infrastructure. She championed digital learning, faculty development programmes, and meaningful community outreach establishing the college as not just a centre of academic excellence but also a catalyst for social change.
“Professor Hassan had the rare ability to lead with both strength and kindness. She inspired us to push boundaries while always remaining grounded,” reflected Dr. Naseer Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor of English.
A staunch advocate for student welfare and women’s empowerment, Professor Hassan launched career development cells, a women’s empowerment cell, and leadership workshops aimed at equipping students with essential life skills. She particularly emphasised skilling female students for non-traditional career paths initiatives she led with passion and purpose.
Her active participation in student events from science exhibitions to cultural festivals endeared her to the student community.
“Her words were powerful. She made each one of us feel seen, heard, and capable,” shared Saba Amin, an alumna of the college.
On April 29, a grand farewell function was organised in her honour. The event was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, students, and alumni. Emotions ran high as heartfelt speeches, cultural performances, and tearful tributes celebrated her remarkable service.
In her farewell address, Professor Hassan remarked, “I have not only taught but also learned, not only led but also followed, and not only built an institution but also cherished a family. I leave with pride and hope.”
Post-retirement, she intends to pursue writing, mentor aspiring educators, and volunteer in initiatives promoting women’s literacy and wellness continuing her journey of service beyond the walls of academia.
As the college moves forward, it does so with immense gratitude for a leader who redefined what it means to educate, inspire, and uplift. Professor Raveena Hassan may have stepped down from her official role, but her impact will remain deeply embedded in the spirit of the institution she helped build.
