Shopian: In a significant step towards improving the nutritional well-being of tribal communities in Shopian, the District Administration under the DA-JUGA organized a distribution drive of seeds, medicinal herbs and seasonal vegetable saplings at Anganwadi Centres of Pehlipora and Government Upper Primary School Kathuhalan.
The initiative was held under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta and was spearheaded by District Nodal Officer AYU
The activity aimed at establishing Poshan Vatikas in tribal villages to encourage the use of home-grown herbs and vegetables, thereby promoting sustainable and self-reliant nutrition practices.
These gardens are intended to serve as models of community health and wellness, particularly in areas with limited access to diverse food sources.
Through the integration of traditional knowledge and modern nutritional awareness, the DA-JUGA initiative envisions empowering tribal households and grassroots institutions to take charge of their dietary needs using locally available resources.
