Udhampur: A massive search operation by security forces continued on Wednesday in the higher reaches of Udhampur district, a day after an encounter broke out in the area following inputs about terrorist movement.
Speaking to media at the site of the ongoing operation, SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure as per news agency JKNS said that the location falls under a high-altitude zone with steep mountains and deep ‘nallahs’, making the terrain extremely challenging.
“We had received inputs about the movement of two to three terrorists. The area was cordoned off and during the search, our teams came under fire. A gunfight ensued for nearly two hours in the evening,” he said.
SSP Nagpure added that the forces retaliated effectively and managed to contain the situation. “So far, there are no reports of any casualties. The area is dense and difficult, but the operation is underway,” he added.—(JKNS)
