The announcement came after the BJP legislature party meeting, which was held at the party’s Delhi unit office on Wednesday evening. 50-year-old Gupta, an MLA from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s leader Bandana Kumari in the recently held Assembly election.

Rekha Gupta is a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, whose life is dedicated to social service and politics.

She began her political journey through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University, in 1992.

In 1996-97, she became the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), where she actively raised student issues.

After being elected as a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, she worked on developing basic facilities in the area, such as libraries, parks, and swimming pools.

For the welfare of women and children, she launched initiatives like the “Sumedha Yojana,” which supported economically weaker female students in pursuing higher education.

As the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she led empowerment campaigns for women.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, having won a clear majority of 48 out of 70 seats in the Assembly election, the results of which were declared on February 8.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister is scheduled for February 20 at Ramlila Maidan.
