PM Modi meets US NSA Waltz, defence industrial cooperation, civil nuclear energy discussed

Washington/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today had a fruitful meeting with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz in Blair House, during which they discussed defence industrial cooperation and civil nuclear energy cooperation with emphasis on small modular reactors.

In a post on X, the PM noted that there is strong potential for bilateral cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors and space.

“Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz.

“He has always been a great friend of India. Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues.

“There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space and more.”

According to a readout: “The discussions touched upon ways to further deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, with a focus on strategic technologies, as well as defense industrial cooperation and civil nuclear energy with an emphasis on small modular reactors, and counterterrorism.

“They also discussed international, and regional issues of mutual interest.”

The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said the two sides had a meaningful exchange of views on deepening bilateral strategic ties and addressing global security challenges.

“PM @narendramodi met with U.S. National Security Advisor @michaelgwaltz at Blaire House today in Washington D.C.

“They had a meaningful exchange of views on deepening India-US strategic ties & addressing global security challenges.”

The meeting was also attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, which lasted for around 45 minutes.

The meeting comes ahead of PM Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in the evening on Thursday.

Earlier, on Wednesday evening, after his arrival, PM Modi met with newly-sworn-in US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

During his Feb 10-12 visit to France, PM Modi and President Emmanuel Macron had discussed partnership in the field of civil nuclear energy cooperation, especially small modular reactors and advanced modular reactors.
