Srinagar: Dr. Mushtaq Rather, former Director of Health Services Kashmir, was among 11 distinguished doctors from across India invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the prestigious ‘At Home Reception’ on January 26. The event, hosted by the President of India, serves as a platform to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their respective fields.

Dr. Rather’s invitation is a testament to his remarkable contributions to the healthcare sector, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. During his tenure as Director of Health Services Kashmir, he played a pivotal role in strengthening public health infrastructure, enhancing emergency medical services, and spearheading initiatives to improve healthcare accessibility in remote areas. His leadership was particularly instrumental in managing the COVID-19 crisis in the region, ensuring efficient vaccination drives, and bolstering hospital preparedness during the pandemic.

One of Dr. Rather’s most innovative initiatives—the *Pony Ambulance Service* during the annual *Amarnath Yatra*—was widely appreciated. The service, designed to provide swift medical assistance to pilgrims in the challenging mountainous terrain, significantly improved emergency response along the yatra route. The initiative ensured that injured or ill devotees received timely medical aid, reducing fatalities and enhancing overall healthcare support during the pilgrimage.

Apart from his administrative leadership, Dr. Rather has been actively involved in medical education, advocating for advanced training programs for doctors and paramedics. His efforts in promoting digital health initiatives and modernizing healthcare facilities have left a lasting impact on the region’s medical landscape.

The ‘At Home Reception’ is an exclusive gathering of eminent personalities, including top government officials, defense personnel, and distinguished civilians. Dr. Rather’s inclusion in this select group highlights national recognition of his work and contributions to the healthcare sector.

Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Dr. Rather stated that the recognition motivates him to continue working towards strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring quality medical services for all.
