Police destroys huge quantity of seized contraband, psychotropic substances at Lassipora Pulwama

Srinagar : Police on Thursday destroyed huge quantity of narcotic drugs & psychotropic substances seized in Ganderbal District, Budgam & PD Awantipora at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora.
The district Level ‘Drug Disposal Committee, Ganderbal’ under the directions of SSP Ganderbal, destroyed huge quantity of the seized drugs and psychotropic substances. The contraband and psychotropic substances that were seized in 14 Cases of district Ganderbal were disposed off, after obtaining proper permission from the competent court, through incineration method at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora. The cumulative worth of the drugs destroyed amounts to Rs.15,85,000 (approx). These contraband substances was destroyed under the supervision of Dy SP DAR Ganderbal, in presence of the magistrate.
Police said that in Budgam, Police destroys quantity of seized Narcotic Drugs under the directions of Hon’ble Court of District and Sessions Judge Budgam. Nikhil Borker, SSP Budgam constituted a committee who destroyed a substantial quantity of Narcotic drugs seized under Section 52-A of NDPS Act in presence of Special Mobile Magistrate Budgam. The discarded contraband was seized in 23 criminal cases and included 120 Kilograms and 404 grams of Poppy Straw, 27 kilograms and 201 grams of Charas, 2 kilograms and 150 grams of caffeine and 64 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon. The net worth of drugs destroyed amounts to the tune of ₹ 60 Lacs approximately.
Police said that in a similar action in Awantipora, consignment of Narcotic/Psychotropic Drugs were seized in 26 different NDPS cases registered in different Police Stations of Police District Awantipora. The process was carried out at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora, adhering strictly to legal protocols and environmental safety standards. During incineration, 90.720 Kgs of Poppy straw, 23.260 Kgs of Fukki, 50.315 Kgs of Cannabis Powder, 201 of Corex Bottles,101 of Codeine bottles, 1 Wine bottle and 284 Grams of charas has been destroyed after following all legal requirements.
Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement said that mass disposal of seized drugs is a significant step towards our commitment to eradicate drug abuse from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to continue to work tirelessly to combat the drug abuse and ensure a safer and healthier environment for our citizens.
