New Delhi: The government on Thursday has issued notices to two cab aggregators – Ola and Uber, for showing different prices for different models of mobile phones.
Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, said that the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to major cab aggregators, Ola and Uber, seeking their responses regarding allegations of differential pricing based on the type of smartphone consumers were using.
In a social media post on ‘X’, the Minister wrote “as a follow-up to the earlier observation of apparent differential pricing based on the different models of mobiles (iPhones/Android) being used, Department of Consumer Affairs through the CCPA, has issued notices to major cab aggregators – Ola and Uber, seeking their responses.”
The CCPA’s decision to issue notices to Ola and Uber came after several complaints were received on differential pricing and the action is aimed to address these consumer grievances and ensure fair practices among the cab aggregators. The companies were required to clarify their pricing mechanisms and the factors contributing to these fare variations.
Several users have been complaining on social media from time to time saying different prices are shown from iPhone and Android even as same pickup, same destination and same time.
