Locals share pride in offering help to stranded tourists; visitors say they are overwhelmed by kindness

Srinagar: The beautiful valley of Kashmir has once again shown the world the true meaning of humanity. When a weather disruption left many tourists stranded in the region, local mosques opened their doors to provide shelter and meals, regardless of the religion or region of the visitors.

According to the details collected by the news agency JKNS, several mosques in Kashmir joined hands during the chilly winter conditions to feed tourists—many of whom came from various states of India—and provide them with warmth and comfort.

Similarly, it has been a gesture that has left both locals and visitors struck by the indomitable spirit of hospitality of this region.

“We believe in helping those in need, irrespective of their background,” said Hafiz Mohammad Imran, a volunteer in one of the local mosques. “Kashmir is known for its kindness, and it was only natural for us to extend a hand to those who found themselves in a difficult situation,” he said.

Notably, the tourism industry, being a significant part of Kashmir’s economy, has suffered due to unexpected weather disturbances. However, the prompt action of local communities has reassured visitors and reaffirmed Kashmir’s reputation as a land of hospitality.

Moreover, many of the tourists stranded at Sonamarg, Gandarbal, and other places appreciated the support they received. “We were worried at first, but the kindness was just overwhelming,” said Rajesh Gupta, a tourist from Delhi. He said, “The people of Kashmir have really shown us what it means to care for others without any hesitation.”

It is worth mentioning that, as Kashmir comes out of a season of challenges, the good it extends to the tourists tells of the long-lasting unity that unites its people. —(JKNS)
