PM Modi holds bilaterals with leaders of UK, France, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Indonesia

Rio de Janeiro/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with the leaders of six nations, including UK PM Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, PM of Norway Jonas Gahr Store, PM of Portugal Luís Montenegro and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

On his meeting with the UK PM Keir Starmer, PM Modi posted on X:

“Had an extremely productive meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Rio de Janeiro. For India, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK is of immense priority. In the coming years, we are eager to work closely in areas such as technology, green energy, security, innovation and technology. We also want to add strength to trade as well as cultural linkages.”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“Infusing fresh impetus to India-Great Britain Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

“PM @narendramodi met PM @Keir_Starmer of UK on the sidelines of the #G20Brazil Summit in Rio.

“The leaders discussed various facets of India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also acknowledged the need for a balanced and mutually beneficial FTA.”

On his meeting with the President of France, PM Modi posted:

“It is always a matter of immense joy to meet my friend, President Emmanuel Macron. Complimented him on the successful hosting of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics earlier this year. We talked about how India and France will keep working closely in sectors like space, energy, AI and other such futuristic areas. Our nations will also work closely to enhance people-to-people linkages.”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“Advancing India-France Strategic Partnership.

“PM @narendramodi met President @EmmanuelMacron of France, on the sidelines of the #G20Brazil Summit.

“The leaders discussed ways to further strengthen India-France ties in the areas of trade & investment, technology, AI, DPI. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the Indo-Pacific.”

On his meeting with the PM of Norway, PM Modi wrote:

“The meeting with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre was excellent. Our Arctic Policy has led to further cementing of India-Norway bilateral relations. We talked about how investment linkages between our nations can improve, particularly in renewable energy, green hydrogen and the blue economy. Closer cooperation in sectors like innovation and research were also discussed.”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“Exploring new avenues to strengthen India-Norway ties.

“PM @narendramodi met with PM @jonasgahrstore

of Norway on the sidelines of #G20Brazil Summit.

“Discussions focused on ways to deepen India-Norway bilateral relations, particularly in trade & economic cooperation after the signing of India-EFTA-TEPA. The leaders also exchanged views on geopolitical issues.”

On his meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni of Italy, PM Modi wrote:

“Glad to have met Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the Rio de Janeiro G20 Summit. Our talks centred around deepening ties in defence, security, trade and technology. We also talked about how to boost cooperation in culture, education and other such areas. India-Italy friendship can greatly contribute to a better planet.”

The MEA spokesperson said:

“India-Italy Strategic Partnership going strong!

“PM @narendramodi met PM @GiorgiaMeloni of Italy on the sidelines of the #G20Brazil Summit in Rio.

“Both leaders welcomed the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 to further elevate and give impetus to the longstanding bilateral ties.”

A statement said: “This was the fifth meeting between the two Prime Ministers in the last two years. The two leaders had met last in June 2024, in Puglia, Italy on the occasion of the G7 Summit chaired by Prime Minister Meloni.

“The two leaders reiterated their commitment to advancing the India-Italy Strategic Partnership and announced a Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 which outlines their vision for the next five years. The Action Plan will pursue joint collaborations, programmes and initiatives in key sectors of trade and investment, science and technology, new and emerging technologies, clean energy, space, defence, connectivity and people-to-people linkages.”

On his meeting with the PM of Portugal Luis Montenegro, PM Modi wrote on X:

“Had a very good meeting with Prime Minister of Portugal, Mr. Luís Montenegro. India cherishes the long-standing ties with Portugal. Our talks focussed on adding more vigour to our economic linkages. Sectors like renewable energy and green hydrogen offer many opportunities for more collaboration. We also talked about strong defence relations, people-to-people linkages and other such subjects.”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“PM @narendramodi met PM @Lmontenegropm of Portugal today, on the sidelines of the #G20Brazil Summit in Rio.

“Both sides deliberated on further strengthening India-Portugal bilateral ties, including in areas of economy, renewable energy, defence and people to people ties & cooperation in multilateral fora.”

On his meeting with the President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, PM Modi posted:

“Delighted to meet President Prabowo Subianto during the G20 Summit in Brazil. This year is special as we are marking 75 years of India-Indonesia diplomatic relations. Our talks focussed on improving ties in commerce, security, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and more.”

The MEA spokesperson said:

“Commemorating 75 years of warm and friendly ties!

“PM @narendramodi met President Prabowo Subianto @prabowo of Indonesia on the sidelines of the #G20Brazil Summit.

“PM congratulated President Prabowo and assured him of India’s full support.

“Both leaders discussed ways to work together for further strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in existing domains as well as expand it to newer areas.”

This was the first meeting of the two leaders.
