The latest encounter broke out when joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation following an input about the presence of militants in Badimarg area of Kulgam.

“As the cordon was being laid, terrorists opened fire triggering a gunbattle. The operation is underway,” officials said, adding no casualties or injuries have been reported on either side so far.

On Tuesday morning, militants and joint forces exchanged fire at Nagmarg forest area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. However, after the initial gunbattle, there was no fresh contact with militants. The massive combing operation in the area continued on Wednesday.

There has been an uptick in encounters in Kashmir this month. Eight militants have been shot dead in eight encounters in November. Most of the gunbattles have taken place in North Kashmir.
