Tangdhar, Karnah October 17, 2024– The vibrant and diverse community of Karnah Tehsil, located along the Line of Control in Kupwara district, gathered to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region during the Tangdhar Cultural Festival 2024. Organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with the civil administration, the festival was held on October 16-17 at the Public Park Cum Helipad, Hajinar, Tangdhar.
The event was inaugurated by the GOC of Vajra Division and featured breathtaking performances that showcased the unique Pahari and Gujari cultures of Karnah. Local artists captivated the audience with folk songs, accompanied by traditional musical instruments, providing an authentic cultural experience.
In addition to the performances, various stalls were set up to highlight the local cuisine, traditional costumes, and distinctive artifacts from Karnah. The event also featured the region’s renowned red rice, kidney beans (Rajmah), and other specialty agricultural products, offering visitors a taste of Karnah’s unique agro-culture. Children enjoyed amusement rides and participated in food and games stalls.
Local schools actively took part in the festival, with students competing in dance, skits, and painting competitions. Their splendid performances highlighted the immense talent of the region’s youth, further adding to the cultural richness of the event.
A highlight of the festival was a traditional **Pahari lunch**, prepared by the local community, which gave visitors a chance to savor the unique flavors of Karnah’s cuisine. Additionally, a free medical health check-up camp, as well as stalls promoting horticulture and floriculture awareness, added a community service aspect to the celebration.
The second day of the festival featured the grand finale of various competitions, including a delightful **Fancy Dress Competition** for children. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where participants were recognized and celebrated for their contributions.
The Tangdhar Cultural Festival 2024 not only entertained but also fostered a deeper connection to the region’s cultural roots. Both locals and tourists expressed heartfelt appreciation for the well-organized event, which successfully showcased the diversity, talent, and heritage of Karnah.
