Sopore, Oct 17: The Social Welfare Department of Sopore organized an awareness program on drug abuse at Gulzar Memorial Educational Trust School (GMET), drawing hundreds of students and staff members.

The program was organised under National Action Plan For Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), aimed to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and emphasize collective efforts to combat this societal issue.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore S.A. Raina and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Fayaz Ahmad Lone attended the occasion as chief guests.

Besides Chairman GMET, other staff members were present on the occasion.

In his address, ADC Sopore provided a comprehensive overview of the drug problem, discussing its sources, causes, and consequences, while urging students to pursue sports as a preventative measure against substance abuse.

Social Welfare Officer Fayaz Ahmad Lone highlighted the importance of the slogan “Say No to Drugs” in fostering a drug-free society, stressing that awareness is vital not only for those directly impacted but for the community as a whole.

Lone also emphasized the critical role of youth in reducing drug addiction. The program featured student skits and speeches addressing the drug menace, advocating for unified efforts toward a successful future.

On the occasion students also participated in a painting and drawing competition.

At the closing ceremony certificates were distributed among participants for outstanding performances.
