On October 11th, 2024, SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department Bandipora, under the supervision of District Administration Bandipora, organized a special program at Town Hall, Hajin, to commemorate International Girl Child Day. The event gathered over 200 underprivileged girls from remote areas of Hajin Block, many of whom had never participated in such events. The celebration aimed to empower these girls by providing exposure, knowledge, and motivation to help shape their futures.

Bilal Ahmad Bhat, a renowned campaigner and motivational speaker, delivered an impactful speech, encouraging the girls to believe in their potential and pursue their dreams despite challenges. His speech was followed by a rally, where the girls enthusiastically promoted girl empowerment and gender equality.

A key focus of the event was an awareness session on Mission Shakti components, including SANKALP HEW and the One Stop Centre (OSC). Officials from both programs highlighted their roles in supporting the safety, security, and empowerment of women and girls. This session emphasized the importance of these initiatives in transforming the lives of women across the district.

The staff of SANKALP HEW was commended for their commitment in completing the 10-day celebration of International Girl Child Day (October 2-11) and their dedication to the 100-day special programs under the Mission Shakti calendar, which focuses on women’s empowerment in Bandipora district.

An art competition was held, and the winners were celebrated: Muskaan Mushtaq from Gundiboon secured the first prize, followed by Sabreena Farooq from AGRC Ajas in second place, and Rutba Mubarik from AGRC SK Bala in third. Mementos were presented to the winners, and participation certificates were distributed to 39 girls for their active involvement.

In recognition of their contributions, mementos were also awarded to the speakers, including Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Dr. Kulsum Bhat, Project Manager of JK Association of Social Welfare, and others, for their valuable insights and support. Dr. Kulsum Bhat, a young leader in the project, delivered a motivational speech, inspiring the girls to embrace education and take charge of their futures.

Over 140 adolescent health and hygiene kits were distributed to the poor girls, addressing essential aspects of personal care. The program also included a counseling session, providing guidance on education and career opportunities for the participants.

The event concluded with a collective pledge for girl empowerment symbolizing the girls’ commitment to contributing positively to their communities. This program, organized by the Social Welfare Department Bandipora, under the supervision of the District Administration, successfully created a platform to empower young girls and raise awareness about their rights and opportunities for a brighter future.
