SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 13: The Expenditure Observer (EO) for Shopian, Nelapatla Ashok Babu today visited Paderpora and Amerbugh villages of the district to inspect the working of Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs) deployed for keeping track on expenditure monitoring of contesting candidates.

The visit was part of the preparations for the Assembly elections, scheduled on 18 September, 2024 in the district.

Expenditure Observer interacted with officials of Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs) and directed them to strictly adhere to the Election Commission’s guidelines emphasizing the need to curb illegal expenditures.

The VST team was asked to view the campaigning activities of all contesting candidates in the area and book the expenditure as per the ground truth.

Four Video Surveillance Teams are deployed in both ACs of the district, who visit campaigning sites of contesting candidates and capture entire events through videography, before its submission with the Video Viewing team who in coordination with the Accounting team book the actual expenditures of contesting candidates in their expenditure registers as per the ground truthing reported through videography.

The teams work under Expenditure Monitoring Nodal Officer, mandated to ensure the proper expenditure monitoring of contesting candidates for the conduct of fair and transparent elections.
