ADC Kupwara flags off Hepatitis Awareness Rally

Kupwara, July 27, In the run up to the celebration of World Hepatitis Day-2024 on July 28, Health Department today organized a rally to raise awareness of infectious disease Hepatitis and encourage its prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

On the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, the rally was flagged- off by the ADC Kupwara, Muhammad Rouf Rehman from DC Office Complex Kupwara, which culminated at Higher secondary school Kupwara after passing through Bus stand Kupwara.

The event witnessed participation of CMO Kupwara, Dr Ramzan, BMOs, Officials of Health department and Students of government Higher Secondary school and other educational institutions of Kupwara.

ADC while addressing the participants said that World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28 every year, which aims to raise global awareness of Hepatitis.

He said that this year’s theme is: It’s time for action. With a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis-related illness, we must accelerate action on better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to save lives and improve health outcomes.

On the occasion, CMO Kupwara said that Hepatitis is a group of infectious diseases, there are 5 main strains of the hepatitis virus known as hepatitis A, B, C.D and E. Hepatitis B and C are the most common infections and result in 1.3 million deaths and 2.2 million new infections per year worldwide.
