SAMBA, JUNE 29: Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma, chaired a crucial meeting to review and strategize anti-flood measures across the district. The meeting focused on ensuring robust coordination among all concerned departments to optimize planning and execution of flood mitigation efforts.
DC Sharma emphasized on the identification of vulnerable areas across the district, including International Border (IB) regions, and the installation of signboards near flood-prone areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Civil Defence Department were also directed to sensitize the population near vulnerable areas. He instructed them to conduct a three-day workshop and carry out mock exercises on flash floods, targeting the nomadic population residing near bridges and agriculture fields.
Additionally, the concerned departments were directed to clear canals and ensure the clearance of drains in urban areas to prevent clogging during the monsoons.
The essential service department, like the Power Development Department (PDD), was directed to ensure proper checking of poles and wires. The Public Works Department (PWD) was tasked with identifying roads near slide-prone areas, and the Jal Shakti Department was instructed to ensure the proper supply of potable water during the monsoons.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to fast-track their efforts and ensure the completion of flood control projects before the monsoon arrives. He also directed Block Development Officers (BDOs) to earmark specific funds for flood protection plans within their respective jurisdictions, particularly to address vulnerable points identified in their areas.
DC Sharma underscored the importance of synergy between departments, including Revenue, Police, Health, and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. He highlighted that integrated efforts are paramount to effectively respond to and mitigate flood risks.
