RAJOURI, NOVEMBER 07: The District Advisory Committee today convened a crucial meeting to discuss and deliberate on the effective enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT) and the Clinical Establishment, Registration & Regulation Act in the Rajouri district.

Chaired by the District Development Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, the meeting witnessed in-depth discussions on varied aspects of the acts.

The PCPNDT Act, a vital piece of legislation serves as a bulwark against prenatal sex determination and the resultant gender-based discrimination. The Act aims to safeguard the rights of the unborn and promote gender equity.

Key points deliberated during the meeting included registration of ultrasound centers where the meeting shed light on the registration status of ultrasound centers in Rajouri district, revealing a total of 30 ultrasound clinics. Among these, there are 04 government ultrasound centers and 26 privately-run ultrasound centers. The District Development Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, directed the concerned officers to ensure the regular and rigorous inspection of all ultrasound centers. This step is crucial in verifying compliance with the PCPNDT Act’s stringent rules and regulations.

Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal emphasized the paramount importance of effective implementation of the PCPNDT Act in the district. He emphasised on a multi-pronged approach, including stringent monitoring, public awareness campaigns, and effective data management.

The District Advisory Committee meeting stands as a strong reaffirmation of the district’s commitment to address the challenges posed by female foeticide and gender-based discrimination. Through vigilance, coordination, and strict adherence to the PCPNDT Act, Rajouri aims to protect the rights and dignity of every unborn child, ensuring a more balanced and equitable society.

During the district registering authority meeting on the Clinical Establishment Act, it was informed that there are 154 registered clinical establishments. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) received clear directives to promptly issue registrations to clinical establishments once all required formalities are met.

Among the others present in the meeting, ASP Vivek Shekhar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rajinder Sharma, District Information Officer Auqil Nuvaid, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Dr. Mehmood Bajar, and various Block Medical Officers (BMOs). Besides, civil society member KK Langer was also present in the meeting.
