The second round of National Deworming Day (NDD) was inaugurated by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan (IAS) at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kupwara.
The District Development Commissioner while giving an overview of the NDD programme to the students said that early years of the child is the most critical and significant phase. The Key areas that need to be addressed are the risks of parasitic intestinal worm infestation in children and iron deficiency.
The DDC said that NDD is an initiative to help children live healthy by improving their overall well-being and nutritional status, and to reduce morbidity. These are the serious health issues that affect the growth and development of the children. Apart from being dewormed, maintaining healthy and hygienic practices will help children and communities remain safe from worm infections.
The students of the school were administered Albendazole tablets during the inauguration of the program .
During NDD, the children between the ages of 1 to 19 will be dewormed with the administration of Albendazole tablets in all schools (government and private), Anganwadi Centres and Health and Wellness centres besides various health promotion activities related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)will be conducted.
