GCW Udhampur hosts awareness lecture on organ donation

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, an awareness lecture on organ donation was organised today at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur, under the convenorship of Dr. Sanjeet Kour.

The event, aimed at spreading awareness about organ donation among students and the general public, was attended by the Principal of the College, Prof. Anjali Mahajan, who served as the chief guest. In her address, Prof. Mahajan congratulated the organisers and praised their efforts in organizing an event that would help spread the message about the importance of organ donation and dispel common misconceptions.

The resource person for the occasion was Dr. Priya Gupta, MD Pathology, Medical Officer, CMO Office Udhampur. In her lecture, Dr. Gupta explained the meaning and purpose of organ donation and discussed its importance, types of donors, list of organs that can be donated, preservation time of donated organs, indications for organ transplantation and complications that may arise during transplantation.

Dr. Gupta also discussed various laws and acts related to organ donation, including the Transplant of Human Organ Act (THOA) and the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).

The program concluded with a pledge ceremony on the theme of organ donation, in which the Principal, staff and students participated enthusiastically. HoD Urdu, Dr. Mool Raj, conducted the proceedings of the program and a formal vote of thanks was presented by HoD Geography, Prof. Pooja Bharti.
