The Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar once again spread the message of universal brotherhood by installing a canopy, serving refreshment to the participants of Muharram procession in Srinagar.

The participants of Muharram procession were attended by the staff of ICSC who were offered refreshments throughout the day.

The tenth of Muharram procession was attended by thousands of people from Shia community who marked their presence in the tenth of Muharram procession which took place from Bota Kadal, Srinagar to Alamgari Bazar Srinagar.

The Mourners were commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain A.S the grandson of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, at the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

While talking exclusively to Daily Gadyal, Professor Suhail from ICSC said, ” It gives us immense pleasure to conduct such camps as we have been involved in this practice from the past many years.”

He said that every year they get involved in such camps and they firmly believe that the message of unity and universal brotherhood shouldn’t remain confined to four walls of our camps but the message must be delivered to a larger audience through these initiatives.

He further added, “The aim of this camp is to show solidarity with our Shia brethren.”

Pertinently, the Muharram processions are integral to this observance and serve as a way for believers to expres their grief, solidarity, and commitment to justice and righteousness.

The processions often involve participants marching through the streets, reciting elegies, and carrying symbolic replicas of Imam Hussain’s shrine.

One of the mourners namely Shahid Ali, from Srinagar told Daily Gadyal that, ” I am my entire community laud the role of staffer of Islamia College of Science and Commerce who never misses a chance to serve us as this isn’t the first time they have came to support us.”

“Such acts foster an atmosphere of inclusivity, where religious communities can come together to respect and appreciate each other’s beliefs and traditions,” he added.
