Vice Chairperson DDC tours flood affected areas in Udhampur

Vice Chairperson, District Development Council, Udhampur Juhi Manhas Pathania conducted an extensive tour of flood affected areas in Tehsil Majalta.

Accompanied by local administration, she inspected roads, public infrastructure, personal houses and buildings damaged due to flooding.

She called upon the administration to immediately embark on remedial measures so as to lessen chances of potential losses.

She further called upon the government to amend SDRF norms and ensure that all rain affected people are indemnified. And damaged public infrastructure is restored at the earliest.

During her visit to Panchayats Bharnara & Jansal, Rajesh Kumar, local sarpanch demanded immediate provision of drinking water supply in the area. He also called for clearance of Bharnara-Jansal Bharnara-Bunal and Neeli-Dhat roads. He called for the start of work on the Neeli to Lanka road.

Hans Raj Sharma Sarpanch, canvassed damages caused to houses and lands of framers by slipshod work on Jagwal-Jansal and Dhar road to Plater roads u/PMGSY. He also called for immediate start of work on the missing link on Dhar road to Plater roads.

They hailed Mrs Pathania for her sterling efforts and called for immediate restoration of PMGSY roads along with construction of drains.

On a point made by local residents of Khoon led by Romesh Gupta, Sarpanch, she called for formulation of a drain channel across the Dhar road so that inflow of water does not gush into houses and shops of nearby people. She also established contact with DC Udhampur and GREF authorities for redressing the issue.

During the visit, the Vice Chairperson also took stock of damaged roads and houses in the affected areas. The heavy rains and floods have caused severe damage to the infrastructure, and many houses have been completely destroyed.

The Vice Chairperson also interacted with the affected people to understand their problems and needs.

Mrs Pathania was accompanied by the officials from the Departments of Irrigation and Flood Control, PMGSY, PWD, PHE and Revenue.

The Vice Chairperson directed the concerned officials to take immediate action to provide relief to the affected people. The Vice Chairperson also emphasized the need for swift action to repair the damaged roads and bridges.

The PRIs of the areas also remain present during the visits. The Vice Chairperson reiterated the commitment to provide all necessary assistance to the affected people. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure that the people get relief at the earliest.

She also visited various other spots in block Khoon and Majalta and took a toll of the damage.
