The residents of (Nadaf Colony Sultanpora) village of Pattan area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest against the authorities for failing to provide drinking water to the residents in the area.
Scores of people including women’s Carrying utensils in their hands, the residents assembled on the Naidkhia- Baramulla road, raised slogans against the Jalshakti department Pattan and disrupted the traffic movement to press their greviences.
A Protester Mohammad Subhan Nadaf told News Agency Jammu Kashmir News Service- that we are not being provided the potable drinking water regularly which is giving them tough time,
Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plight,
He added’ that we were facing acute water scarcity for the last Eight days.
“We have been facing acute shortage of potable water. The taps are dry and authorities don’t bother to provide regular water supply,” another protester said’.
A group of protesters said’ that though the Govt has constructed a water tank near the said village but its water supply not provide us due to shortage of pipelines
They added’ that we met all the concerned officers and highlighted their issues several times but nothing was done.
The villagers appealed DC Baramulla and LG Adminstration to intervene in the matter and solve their problem on priorty basis so they will not suffer more and also questioned that if schemes for pipelines are given by government ٫ why they are not implemented at ground level.
Meanwhile repeated attemps by Jammu Kashmir News Service tried to reach the Executive Engineer Jal Shakti department (PHE) Pattan Farooq Ahmad for his comments over the issue, however, he could not be contacted for the comments as he didn’t respond to the repeated phone calls,”
