DC Poonch reviews measures to curb drug abuse at NARCO meeting

POONCH, JANUARY 16: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Inder Jeet today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the NARCO Coordination (NCORD) to discuss the measures to curb the drug abuse in the district.

During the meeting, the action taken report on the decisions taken in the previous meeting was sought from all the stakeholders.

Chief Agriculture Officer & DFO intimated that no area in the district is under poppy cultivation.

SDM Surankote, Mendhar, Tehsildars Haveli and Mandi briefed the meeting about the action taken by the concerned Tehsil level committee for NARCO control.

In the meeting, Dysp Hqr explained the measures taken by police to check the menace of Narcotic Drugs.

The Chief education officer and representative of colleges gave details about the awareness campaign/ programmes conducted in Educational Institutions against the drug menace.

Deputy Drug Controller informed about the regulation mechanism in place to keep check on unauthorized sale of psychotropic drugs by medical stores. He further informed about the installation of CCTV cameras in the medical shops to check the supply of scheduled drugs. He also provided the list of patients who have been given such drugs on medical prescription.

He was directed by the chairman to ensure that all the chemists/ Druggists shall maintain proper record of the sale of drugs to the needy patients only on the basis of authorized medical prescription.

The Medical Superintendent of district hospital was directed to provide the services of doctors as already ordered to the drug de-addiction centre on SOS basis.

At the end, the Deputy Commissioner directed all the stakeholders to work with zeal and zest to ensure NARCO drugs free environment in the district.
