SURRENDERS BY LOCAL TERRORISTS REAFFIRM TRUST AND CONFIDENCE OF THE PEOPLE OF KASHMIR ON SECURITY FORCES

Pakistan, as part of its proxy war against India, has been playing with the sentiments of the Kashmiri people; instigating gullible youth to take up arms by radicalising them and infusing hatred in their minds against the mainstream. Weapons, material and psychological support is being provided to them by our adversary through a well–established network of over ground workers (OGW).
These youth – turned – terrorists with little or no training are made to prove their mettle initially by killing innocent civilians, Security Forces personnel and minority community members. This trend of senseless killings has increased post abrogation of Article 370. Due to the intense operations carried out by Security Forces in Kashmir, the average active life of a terrorist has reduced to five to six months.
During every live encounter with terrorists, the Security Forces provide every possible opportunity for misguided youth to surrender. All efforts are made by Security Forces to save precious lives. This aspect of the Security Forces was visible during the operation that took place at village Hadigam, Kulgam on the night of 5th/ 6th Jul 22. As the operation progressed, search of the suspected house was carried out during which two terrorists were found hiding inside. On being challenged, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the Security Forces. Since both the terrorists were newly recruited local youth, the commander on ground acting with extreme restraint and humane sensibility asked the terrorists to surrender. Subsequently the families of both terrorists were also brought to the encounter site. As a result of sincere efforts made by the commander coupled with the repeated pleas by the family members, the two terrorists agreed to surrender.
The above incident substantiates the fact that Security Forces are committed to reducing casualties and collateral damage during military operations. The aim remains to facilitate maximum surrenders in order to cement the confidence of the people and create a secure environment. Legitimate military actions are primarily to facilitate smooth governance inclusive of socio-economic development.
