9th June 2022. A first of its kind athletics’ sports mega event kicked off in Pethabug Sports Ground, Warpura, Zaingair to revive the sporting culture of Sopore region. Inaugurated by Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, DC Baramulla, a three-day long Sports Carnival is underway, for the people of Baramulla and Bandipura Districts including the higher reaches of Zaingair region and Sopore town, being organized by Zaingair Youth & Sports Association in collaboration with Indian Army.
The Carnival aims to boost sports in the region and revitalize rural games, and will set a benchmark in true sense of a word wherein 28 youth associations have come together to compete across 10 sports, to make this event a historic one.
The grand opening ceremony was held with lighting of baton, cutting of ribbon and motivational speech by the DC. The event kick started with the heats of track events, Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi knockouts, and also a martial art display by Shah-i-Hamdan Sports Academy. The event has garnered wide traction and local interest, as was evident by the huge attendance of locals.
