Students of GDC Samba visit Manda Zoo

JAMMU, JUNE 08: A group of Students of Bio-sciences department of Government Degree College Samba were today taken on an Educational tour to Manda Zoo where they were given a detailed presentation on wildlife and challenges posed by man- animal Conflict.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, (Wildlife), J&K  interacted with the students and explained to them the importance of wildlife and wildlife areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

He called upon students and youth to play an active role in raising awareness about conservation of nature and protection of wildlife. He mentioned the uniqueness of wildlife in J&K as Hangul- a red deer species is only found in J&K. “There are several endemic species in J&K which enrich the biodiversity” he said.

The Wildlife department also screened documentary movies on wildlife to add to the knowledge of the students.

Prof. Vijay Chandan, Head of the Botany Department, Government Degree College Samba gave a detailed account of activities of students under the curriculum. The students visited Nature Interpretation Centre Manda and where Wildlife Warden Amit Sharma briefed them about the animals housed in Manda Zoo.

The programme was conducted by Anil Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu and attended by Dr. Arun Gupta, Wildlife Warden Headquarter, Range Officers and staff of the Wildlife Protection Department.
