April 30: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 04 drug peddlers in Kupwara, Budgam & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kupwara, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in two separate actions. Acting on specific information regarding drug peddling in Diver Kadiwan area, a police party led by SHO Police Station Lalpora raided the specific spot and arrested two drug peddlers identified as Saqib Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat and Asif Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani both residents of Diver Lolab. During search, officers were able to recover 200 grams of Charas like substance from their possession. Similarly in another action, a police party led by SHO PS Kupwara alongwith Executive Magistrate and arrested a drug peddler near Bed College Dragmulla after receiving information about the drug trade in the area. He has been identified as Beedar Ahmad Mir son of Gulam Rasool Mir resident of Jaggarpora. Officers were able to recover 300 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. They have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.
In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Budgam during daily routine checking at Bathar Budgam intercepted a vehicle (ZEN) bearing registration number JKO1J-1987 driven by one person identified as Adil Manzoor Paul@ Zaffer son of Manzoor Ahmed Paul resident of Narkara Budgam. During search, apparently 6.40 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Moreover in Kulgam, officers from PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Vessbatapora intercepted one person who was roaming in suspicious condition. During search, 08Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mashooq Ahmad Hella son of Abdul Rashid Hella resident of Vesbatpora, Kulgam. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation set into motion.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
