Youth sets himself on fire to stop demolition drive in Ganderbal Kashmir- Police Appeals to not circulate the Video

In a shocking incident and arguably first of its type incident, A youth set himself on fire in Kashmir during a demolition drive in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.

Divulging information to the news agency, official sources said that a team of revenue officials from the district along with Jammu Kashmir Police reached the spot of the “illegal” construction in Ganderbal’s Harran area on Tuesday.

“Before the Police or the officials could reach the spot of the construction, the man set himself on fire at the rooftop of the building,” he said, adding that the construction is illegal and has no permission from any of the concerned departments.

He said that Tehsildar Ganderbal along with Municipal Council launched a demolition campaign against illegal encroachments at the Gundrahman area of Ganderbal today (Tuesday) morning.

During demolition owner of Complex Abdul Hamid Shah son of Ghulam Ahmed Shah, a resident of Harran Ganderbal in a bid to stop the department from demolishing their newly built complex along with family members/relatives and threw some stones towards the party, the official said.

He said that during the drive Aamir Ahmed Shah try to burn him with kerosene or petrol.

The official said that after the incident the demolition drive was immediately stopped.

Sources said that Aamir as received critical burn injuries and has been shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Meanwhile the SSP of Ganderbal has asked media personnel and social media users to not circulate the video.
