The aim of event is to ignite an interest in science, inspire people, especially students: Director

Srinagar, Feb 22: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar is all set to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav through the ‘Science & Technology Festival’ to be held on February 28 for Class XI-XII Science students in collaboration with Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI) Panjab University Chandigarh funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi.

To mark “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements, the Department of Physics, NIT Srinagar in association with ‘Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF) ‘, Panjab University, Chandigarh Under “Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure” is celebrating National Science Week on 28 February.

Director NIT Srinagar, Prof (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said the primary objective of the event is to ignite an interest in science, inspire people, especially students, to perform new experiments.

The scientific event is expected to provide a vibrant platform to participants and many path-breaking research ideas will be discussed in the event, he said.

Registrar NIT Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said the ‘Science & Technology Festival’ will be a platform for young participants who are expected to grace the event from across Kashmir.  The event will highlight the contribution of Dr. Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman’ for which he won the Nobel Prize in Physics, Prof. Bukhari said.

HOD Physics and Chairman of the event, Dr. M. A. Shah said the theme of the program will be “Integrated Approach in S&T for Sustainable Future”, to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by the great Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman on February 28, 1928.

Director, SAIF Panjab University, Prof. Dr. Ganga Ram Chaudhary and main coordinator of STUTI said the program is aimed at human resource development and their capacity building through open access to science and technology infrastructure. The training scheme will work on a hub and spoke model, he said.

“The main focus would be to popularize science and research among the budding science students by organizing various activities like quizzes, declamation, poster making competition and visits to Analytical Instrumentation Facility,” Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary said.

 Dr. Vijay Kumar, Coordinator, STUTI Awareness Program at NIT Srinagar said the event has been divided into multiple sections including lectures series, quiz competition, poster/model, and speech competition (for school students of Class XI-XII) on “Science and Technology for Sustainable Future.
