A peaceful protest gathering was held by J&K PhD Scholars Association to highlight the
various issues faced by the PhD scholars working in the various colleges and universities
of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the said gathering, the participants expressed their disappointment over the lack of
comprehensive job policy, delay in advertisement of Academic Arrangement notification
for the year 2022, the meager salary paid to them in violation of equal pay for equal work
norm, lack of full academic session engagement, lack of winter/ summer vacation pay
and using the nomenclature of ‘Lecturer’ instead of ‘ Assistant Professor’ for Academic
Arrangement teachers working in various degree colleges and universities of Jammu and
Kashmir.
The participants passionately appealed to the honorable Lieutenant Governor to address
their issues on humanitarian grounds. According to them, due to COVID-19 pandemic
and other local reasons, scholars have lost many precious years without getting any job
opportunity. In this regard, they requested the honorable Lieutenant Governor to kindly
consider the increase in upper age limit for PSC and SSB posts so that career of many
scholars could be saved who are about to cross the upper age limit in immediate future.
