A computer coaching centre was inaugurated today at Army Goodwill School, Dawar as part of the women empowerment and skill development initiatives being undertaken by the Army in Gurez. 15 girls from nearby villages have enrolled for the two month long winter computer coaching sponsored by the Indian Army and on its culmination certificates would be provided to those who qualify the course.
Winters in Gurez are harsh and due to heavy snowfall all agrarian and commercial activities come to a standstill. All schools and colleges of the valley are also closed for three months. This lull period can be effectively utilized for imparting basic computer training to the locals to provide them with a foundation on which they can build new skills and enhance their employment opportunities. Computer literacy for the locals of Gurez valley can open up endless opportunities in various fields like education, agriculture, business and health. This initiative has been highly lauded by the locals and inauguration of one more winter computer coaching centre is being planned at Achoora village shortly.
