The official record shows that the then ARTOs Baramulla in 2017 had generated a meagre Rs 9 crore as revenue which declined in 2018 by Rs one crore. In 2019, the Rs 10 crore was generated while in 2020, the generated revenue was substantial Rs 23 crore.

ARTO Baramulla Mubashir Bashir Bhat while talking to news agency Kashmir News Trust said there is a room for improvement and day by day things are being made easier for the people.

“We started road trials in different divisions of the district and now people don’t have to visit the main office to obtain the driving licenses. Besides, changes were made in rules that had become in a way redundant. Instead of creating impediments and bottlenecks during test drive trials, we lay thrust on skills of the drivers. There is no fun in denying license to a person who crosses 30 kilometres in his own vehicle to reach the trial point for the ‘try,’ he said.

Mubashir Bashir Bhat further said that for the first time under Rule 15 of Motor Vehicles Act, road trials were started for the benefit of the people. “We empowered 74 Community Service Centres across Baramulla district for the people. In the first 9 months, we renewed 1879 old driving licenses and issued international driving permits to six persons from the district,” he said and appealed all to obtain driving license legally instead of falling for touts that run illegal business.
