CUK holds 14th Academic Council meeting

Ganderbal, Oct 7: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Thursday conducted the 14th meeting of the Academic Council, in both offline and online mode, at Green Campus here, with Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir in chair.

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators of departments, external experts, and senior administrative functionaries were also present during the meeting.

Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university has the distinction of completing the degrees of students in all programmes in a time bound manner. “The varsity, despite facing various challenges on account of volatile situation and the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, has strictly adhered to academic and examination calendar. The Examination and Evaluation Wing (EEW) of the university took the End Semester Examinations (ESE) of students to their doorsteps and established the examination centres in almost all the districts of Kashmir during Covid,” he said, adding the same was done in order to facilitate the students to appear in the examinations and complete their degrees within the stipulated time. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that post Covid-19 outbreak, the online teaching learning was conducted successfully through different modes of communications and the attendance of students was ensured.

CUK Vice Chancellor, said the Directorate of Research and Development (DRD) is keeping a keen eye on the research conducted by the scholars and is ensuring that quality research is conducted. “For this, the DRD is currently holding a two-week workshop on research methodology in order to impart basic knowledge to the scholars about the ways and means to conduct research, which would be beneficial to the community,” he added.

Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir stated that the university has become choicest destination for students and the dropout rate is insignificant. CUK Vice Chancellor said that despite infrastructural deficiencies, the students of the university were participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities and were bringing laurels to the university.

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, who took up the agenda items, said the varsity has been marching ahead on academics and research when compared to other Central Universities. He said the university took a break from Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) and conducted Central University of Kashmir Admission Test (CUKAT-2021) for admission to the Post Graduate, Under Graduate, Research, Diploma and other programmes offered by it. “As many as 6000 aspirants appeared in the entrance examination conducted at different centres across the Kashmir, Jammu,  Ladakh regions and other States of the country according to the set COVID-19 protocol,” he further said.

The members during the meeting discussed the starting of online course in “online media and cyber security” in the department of convergent journalism, establishment of media skills development centre, establishment of centre for skill based vocational courses in biotechnology, establishment of infrastructure, facilities and start of activities in already approved department of medical technology, establishment of training centre for mushroom cultivation and spawn production, establishment of botanical garden, museum, herbarium, establishment of the department of environmental sciences, establishment of centre of excellence in artificial intelligence, internet of things and machine learning, establishment of coding for all: DIT coding and IT skill development centre and other issues related to academics and took several decisions.

Vice Chancellor also released Reflection Examination and Evaluation, MoU between ARM and CUK, CODECHEF CUK Chapter.

Consultant academics, Prof. Parveen Pandit proposed the vote of thanks.
