Srinagar, 17 Jun 2021.On the third day of its journey through South Kashmir,
Victory Flame entered the historic and picturesque town of Shopian. The
Commanding Officer Rashtriya Rifles, Panzgam received the flame at Khanabal
Military Garrison and escorted it through Malangpura, Pulwama, to Shopian Town,
where it was received with ardent fervor and jubilation by school children, local
youth, government officials, veterans and serving Security Forces personnel.
The flame was then handed over to Sector Commander Rashtiriya Rifles,
Balapur at Army Goodwill School. Large gathering of local citizens & civil dignitaries
including Mr Irfan Manhas, Vice Chairman, District Development Council and Mr
Amrit Pal Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian paid tributes to the
Victory Flame.
A variety of cultural programmes including singing of patriotic songs by school
children , were organised to mark the event. In commemoration of the event, Sector
Commander Rashtriya Rifles, Balapur felicitated Ms Zeenat, National Level medalist
in Sqay (form of Kashmiri Martial Arts) and other children participating in the event.
Finally, the flame was escorted to Headquarters of Balapur Sector Rashtirya Rifles,
where it was presented a Guard of Honour.
To mark the special occasion of Swarnim Vijay Varsh a painting competition
was organised in various schools around the valley. A total of 570 children took part
in the event, which was organised over a span of 15 days among 214 villages. The
best entries were selected and students participated in grand finale organised at
Zainakot on 17 Jun 21. The grand finale witnessed participation of 108 children, out
of which 65 were of category from age group of 06 to 12 years and 43 were of
category from age group of 12 years and above. This event was concluded by
felicitating the best entries by chief guest for the event Mr Akshay Labroo (SDM,
Srinagar West) and Commanding Officer Rashtriya Rifle, Zainkot.
