Bandipora, Jun 11: Once Kashmir’s Covid-19 hotspot, people in Gund-Jahngeer village of Hajin in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district breathed a sigh of relief as only few people were found to be infected in the second wave this year.
Last year, almost the entire village was found to be infected with the Covid-19 forcing authorities to conduct mass testing in the village and its adjoining areas.
Official data available with news agency revealed that around 277 positive cases are active in the Hajin medical block of which only seven are from the Gund-Jahngeer village.
The data also said that the total number of cases in the medical block now stands at 2079 of which 277 are active while 1803 patients have been discharged so far. About 11 patients also died.
Talking to news agency the locals from Gund-Jahngeer said that the villagers breathed a sigh of relief this year as no large-scale Covid positive cases have been reported in the area so far.
They said the people of the village are now taking all the precautions against the Covid.
“Last year, everyone including elderly people and children were infected with the Coronavirus after which the village was completely sealed and normal life was affected, ” Rameez a local said.
He said that considering last year’s situation, people have been very careful this year due to which the number of patients is not high this year. “I think people have learned to be careful this year after the whole village was infected with the Covid last time, ” Rameez said.
“We know how much trouble we’ve had here last year. Even necessities of life were not available when the area was sealed off by the administration, ” said Saleem Ahmad whose entire family was infected with the Covid last year.
“Today there are vaccines against Covid disease, and patients are getting oxygen if needed but I remember when my family had it, there was nothing except a closed room, ” Saleem said, adding that this time we were taking extreme precautions to stop the spread of the disease.
