Huge quantity of contraband substances recovered
May 25: Continuing its efforts to eradicate menace of drugs from the society, Police in Anantnag have arrested a notorious drug peddler & recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from his possession.
Acting on specific information, a police party led by SHO PS Mattan at a checkpoint established at Akura Junction intercepted an individual identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Sheikh son of Mohd Munavar resident of Bon Nambal. During checking, officers were able to recover 15 Kgs of bung powder and 08 Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 50/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Mattan and further investigation has been taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
