In the video, few women, seen walking in the market are stopped, and beaten with a stick by the enraged officer, allegedly for “violating” the ongoing lockdown.

A little later, the official walks ahead and assaults another woman pleading hand folded for mercy.

The incident has sent shock waves with netizens calling the act as barbaric and hooliganism.

“A high rank official hit women in Baramulla. See what the administration is doing on the pretext of controlling lockdown violators. Is he an administrator,” a netizen wrote on his Facebook page.

An advocate at Baramulla told over phone that the official’s action is a clear violation of the law.

“The violator first needs to be produced before a court. The court will take the final decision as it deems fit. The official cannot resort to beating anyone, not just women. Under no circumstances can a male officer beat a woman,” he said.
