Kupwara, Apr 8: The Jammu and Kashmir police Thursday claimed to have recovered nine kilograms of heroin worth Rs 60 crore in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
Addressing the media, senior superintendent of police, Kupwara Dr GV Sundeep said one Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, a resident of Panjitara in Tanghdar, was arrested leading to the recovery of nine kilograms of heroin.
He said, “We were after it (narco-module) for last one week after receiving specific inputs. It was late last night Kupwara police along with 6th battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles made the successful recovery of the banned substance.”
“The module was working for militants to strengthen their activities in the valley and were misguiding and motivating the local youth to join militant ranks, the ssp added.
He said a case has been registered under NDPS Act at police station Karnah and further investigations have taken up in this regard.
The officer said the police is committed to rein in people involved in drug-related activities. “We firmly vouch to eradicate the menace and won’t come easy on the people involved in such activities,” he said.
Pertinently, last year a big drug module was busted in Handwara area of the Kupwara district wherein a large cache of heroine and cash worth 1.34crore was seized by the police.
