Srinagar, March 28:In a major boost to tourism sector, the GoAir and Indigo Airline are starting direct flights respectively between Srinagar – Ahmedabad and Bangalore from Monday.
Director Tourism Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo, said the airlines have taken the decision to operate direct flights to Srinagar owing to the good rush of the travellers.
He said the direct flights from Ahmedabad and Bangalore will boost the tourism sector.
GoAir in its latest advertisement announced non-stop operation from major cities including Ahmadabad.
Notably, after the travel restrictions were eased in India, Kashmir has witnessed unexpected footfall of the tourists especially during winter months due to frequent snowfall which acted as a major attraction for the travellers.
The department has already organised many festivals and events at Srinagar, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Doodhpathri, Badamwari which created a buzz about tourism activists and helped promote tourism sector.The department of tourism is also planning a mega tulip festival from April 3.
“Direct flights was the major demand for the travel and hospitality sector. Now, it has been announced. It will help us attract tourists in good numbers. We also went to major cities in the country to promote tourism and received major response from the public,” he said.
