The police have arrested a serial killer for murdering a woman in Jubilee Hills of Telangana’s Hyderabad on January 4.
After killing Venkatamma, accused Maina Ramulu burnt her face with petrol beyond recognition, following which a 20-day-long extensive investigation led to the arrest of the serial killer. Ramulu, who was serving a jail sentence, had escaped from Erragadda hospital in 2011.
“His modus operandi is to target women visiting toddy shops. So far, he killed 18 women in the limits of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy districts,” said Mahesh Bhagwat, CP Rachakonda.
The arrest was made by a joint team of Hyderabad and Rachakonda Police, and the police was able to solve two more murder cases.
Ramulu, 45, a labourer and stone-cutter by profession, is a resident of Hyderabad. He was previously arrested in 21 cases, out of which, 16 are murder cases.
According to the police, his parents got him married at the age of 21 years, but his wife eloped another man within a short period of their marriage, and since then he bore grudge against women and started killing them.
