Saroori anguish over poor response to post earthquake relief work in Chenab Valley

Urged Centre to depute NDMA technical team for assessing the damage caused due to the quake

Jammu, January 22: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Vice President, Ghulam Mohammed Saroori today expressed displeasure over the Government’s relief work in the earthquake-hit Chenab Valley and appealed the administration to reach out to the affected families.

Issuing a statement to the press, Saroori expressed anguish over the plight of the relief work which is going on at a snail pace and poor response system to the victim families who suffered losses worth lakhs due to the earthquake. He said that the administration caught unprepared post earthquake. Saroori expressed concern over the situation after several delegations called on him and appraised him about the emerging situation in Chenab Valley.

Saroori urged the Govt to mobilize their resources for rebuilding the damaged infrastructure in Chenab Valley. “Under the bone chilling cold weather conditions, the people are compelled to spend farms,” he added while seeking help from the authorities in rural and far-flung areas.

After hearing the grievances of the deputations, Saroori said Chenab Valley was the epicenter of the earthquake and more than 100 of the houses and the Government building including schools suffered worst damage. He said that “A large number of houses have developed cracks and dozens of houses have been declared unsafe for living.”

The Former Minister urged the Centre to depute NDMA technical team for assessing the damage caused due to the quake in the Chenab Valley.
