E-inaugurates Drug De-addiction center at Budgam.
All stakeholders must come forward to save and shape future by eradicating Drug abuse in society.
Budgam 01- January: Jammu and Kashmir is land of sufis and Saints and we need to revive past glory and tradition of crime free society. These remarks were made by Hon’ble Justice Mr. Ali Mohammad Magrey in an impressive program convened here in New Conference Hall regarding Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhyaan.
The program conducted by District Administration in collaboration with DLSA Budgam was attended by Principal District & Sessions Judge Budgam Raja Shujat Ali, District Magistrate Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza, SP Budgam Amod Ashok Nagpure, Secretary DLSA Mrs. Fozia Paul, judicial officers, officers and officials of District Administration, Para Legal volunteers and other concerned.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Magrey hailed the District Administration and DLSA for conducting the program which is need of the hour as Drug abuse cases are on rise and has spread in some areas of the district. Justice Magrey emphasized that to save our society, we need to tackle this challenge and take it as a Mission which shall be deeply attached to heart and mind. During the program, Justice Magrey also E-inaugurated Drug De-addiction Centre set up at District Hospital Budgam. Justice Magrey exhorted upon all stakeholders including Civil and police administration, civil society, village headmen, Principals of educational institutions, NGOs, Doctors, Line Departments and DLSA to come forward and actively participate in uprooting this menace from District.
We have reached a stage, where we need to set up Drug De-addiction centres which should be an eye opener and a serious matter concerning all of us, Justice Magrey added.
Today on first day of the New year, we should take pledge to fight this evil and curb it, Justice Magrey said.
He said that, Since Mother is first source of learning after school, it shall always be an endeavor or every parent to guide their children towards right path so that they doesn’t fall prey to drug abuse. He said, the way we take care and interest in protecting our children from Drug abuse, similar interest and care needs to be shown with utmost duty to save our neighbors in particular and society at large from Drug addiction. Justice Magrey hailed the efforts of District and police Administration in their efforts to stop Drug abuse spreading in District. He said that, Girls nowadays are also been identified as victim of drug abuse which needs to be looked and redressed on war footing basis.
He said, To make program a success, all the the participants of the program should take it their moral and ethical duty to spread the message against Drug abuse to every nook and corner of District. Justice Magrey further instructed that Drug Mafia needs to be booked under various provisions of law and shall be dealt with iron hands. He urged upon all the stakeholders to achieve the aim and objective of Nasha Mukt Baharat Abhiyan by March 2021 which is a deadline set for the Abhiyan.
Raja Shujat Ali, Principal District and Sessions judge in his welcome address said that under Nasha Mukt Baharat Abhiyan, out of 272 District declared as vulnerable Districts of Drug abuse, District Budagm is one among them. He said 25 Para legal Volunteers of District Budgam have been declared as Master Trainers at National level and their role in realising the goals of Nasha Mukt Baharat Abhiyan shall prove critical in eradicating this evil from Budgam. He said, Massive awareness programmes against Drug abuse are being held in District which shall be continued in future as well. Stress Management and counselling for Drug abuse victims was need of the hour for which centre has been E-inaugurated today.
The program was also addressed by S.P Budgam Amod Ashok Nagpure who said that Drug abuse hits Young or old, Rich or poor and this new year is another opportunity to work with full zeal and sincerity so that District Budgam turns into prosperous District, free of Drug Addiction and abuse. He said, that Smoking in family and Tobacco use is precursor to Drug abuse which should be avoided at any cost. Normalizing the usage of Smoking culture is dangerous trend which inevitably leads to Drug addiction in many cases, the SP added.
He informed the meeting that Cannabis was destroyed in 162 kanal of land in District where it was cultivated. In addition to it, FIR against 175 person has been registered till date against drug peddlers while as another 12 persons are behind the bars at present. He also said that it is easy to trace Drugs like Heroin, Cocaine, brown sugar etc but the cases like usage of shoe polish, Iodex ointment on bread, dirty dingy socks is very hard to detect which exist at family level for which every parent has to remain alert. The accused of maximum crimes, around 63% are the drug peddlers, such is the connection and impact of Drug abuse and crime, the SP said.
The meeting was apprised by Doctor Imtiyaz Psychologist in Health Department that alcohol and smoking are gateway to drug abuse. He highlighted the types of drugs and medical treatment and mitigation efforts put in place by health Department.
In his vote of thanks to the chair, DC Budgam reiterated that entire District Administration will pro actively pursue Nash Mukt Baharat Abhiyan to have a glorious future ahead.
