Darbar move deferred amid COVID surge

Srinagar, Apr 15: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday deferred the biannual darbar move to Srinagar in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the erstwhile state.

However, the civil secretariat shall function both in Srinagar and Jammu region.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, LG J&K office said that in view of the sharp rise in COVID cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has taken few important decisions ensuring safety of employees.

“In view of sharply rising cases of COVID in J&K, the Govt has taken few important decisions ensuring safety of employees. •Darbar move deferred because of COVID •Secretariat to function in both #Srinagar & #Jammu •Office functioning not to be affected because of eOffice(sic),” LG office tweeted.

“As J&K is witnessing surge in number of Covid cases, the threat it poses to people/ staff on the move and the implementation of eOffice in both the Secretariat, in move offices, it has been decided to defer the #DarbarMove this time (sic),” LG office said.

However, LG said that the functioning of the secretariat would not be affected as files would move electronically between both secretariats.

“However, Secretariat will function in both Srinagar & Jammu with staff equitably split between two Secretaries will function from both locations in an equitable manner Office functioning will not be affected as files move electronically between both Secretariats in eOffice(sic),” LG office said.

The biannual darbar move was scheduled to close in Jammu between April 30 and May 1 and set to begin functioning in the summer capital from May 10.

Jammu and Kashmir had recorded 11,41 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday taking the infection count to 1,42,877 while five deaths due to the virus raised the toll to 2,046 in the region.
