KARNAH: A committee consisting of five members, representing Jammu and Kashmir Province, has been assigned the task of linking tehsil-level board offices to district-level offices, as per Order No. 58-B 2024 issued on February 21, 2024, by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education. This committee is expected to submit its recommendations within a three-week timeframe. Among the tehsil offices earmarked for attachment are those located in remote hilly areas, some as far as seventy to eighty kilometers away from the district headquarters. Additionally, there’s a tehsil office situated 78 kilometers away in a border area, which frequently becomes inaccessible due to harsh winter conditions, leading to extended periods of isolation from the district. The proposal to link tehsil branch offices with district headquarters has stirred apprehension among students and parents in Karnah. Despite this, numerous intricate scenarios persist, where candidates find themselves shuttling between the board and their respective schools on a regular basis. Currently, hundreds of students from 13 high schools and 6 higher secondary schools in Karnah are undergoing the board’s registration exams and certificate processes. Following the attachment of the Tehsil Board office, candidates or school administrators responsible for admissions and examinations will need to travel to Kupwara, a journey taking at least two days. Considering the geographical challenges faced by Karnah and aiming to ensure students’ convenience, the civil society of Karnah earnestly requests the committee not to attach the Tehsil Office Tangdhar.
