Karnah Kupwara: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) is determined to make every effort to regain statehood, either before or after the elections. During his visit to Karnah, Umar expressed, “I won’t be contesting in the elections, but the NC will actively participate in every electoral opportunity, leaving no room for others.” He reiterated, “We will exhaust all possible means to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, whether it occurs before or after the elections.” The former CM emphasized, “The NC will contest elections with the goal of reclaiming statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.”

In response to a question, he mentioned that the party will introduce a new candidate for the North Kashmir parliamentary seat, as the former MP’s health condition prevents them from engaging with the constituents. He stated, “Individuals cannot decide unilaterally; the party will engage in discussions, and the party chief will make the final decision.”

Regarding the possibility of the NC joining forces with other regional parties for parliamentary elections, Omar Abdullah mentioned, “No decision has been reached yet. We’ll await the election results from the five states going to the polls, and our future actions will be determined accordingly.”

Omar Abdullah voiced concerns about the challenges faced by the people of Kashmir, stating, “The people here are facing humiliation, and our identity has been eroded. Our voices aren’t heard in government offices, and officials who do not understand our issues have been appointed.” He pointed out that the decisions made by the Central government are negatively impacting the region.

He also highlighted the significance of celebrating Fifth UT Foundation Day as an occasion to reflect on the authority that has been taken away and the need to address these issues. He encouraged the people of Karnah to strengthen their support for the party.

Other prominent leaders, including Nasir Aslam Wani, Mir Saifullah, Kafilur Rahman, and Nazir Gharizi, were also present during his visit.
