War against drugs continues;  03 drug peddlers arrested in Budgam, Handwara and Sopore

March 24: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam, Handwara & Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Budgam, officers from Police Station Khansahab during intervening night of 23/24 March intercepted a suspicious person identified as Khursheed Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir resident of Khansahab.  During checking, officers were able to recover 10.5Kgs of Cannabis (Powder) concealed in a bag from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR number 35/2021  under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Khansahab and further investigation has been initiated.

In Handwara, Officers from Police Station Kralgund at a checkpoint established in Kralgund market spotted a suspicious person fleeing from the area. However, the alert police party tactfully chased and apprehended him. He has been identified as Arif Ahmad Najar son of Ab Aziz resident of Kralgund. During checking, officers were able to recover 30grams of brown sugar from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 15/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kralgund and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

While in Sopore, officers at a checkpoint established at Chatloora, intercepted a person identified as Manzoor Ahmad Shah son of Nazir Ahmad Shah resident of Neharpora Sopore. During checking, officers were able to recover 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Dangiwacha where he remains in custody. Accordingly, case FIR No. 50/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Dangiwacha and investigation in the matter has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
